The women came carrying the fullness of their day — stress, busy minds, the weight of life. Some were new to art journaling. Some weren’t.

“I’m happy I had the painting session with Tina—I have no regrets attending it and am really looking forward to another session next time. It was a great way to relieve stress and gave me an outlet to express myself. The session also reminded me that it’s alright to be messy with art, and that creativity doesn’t always have to follow strict rules. I enjoyed exploring different colors and techniques, and it helped me appreciate the process more than the final result.” Serlyn

At the beginning, I simply invited them to make a mess. To let go of expectation. To be curious. To explore.

And something shifted.

As they began to loosen up, there was more conversation, laughter, and a real sense of ease in the space. We sat for a while with Philippians 4:6 — “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.”

Even though many of them already knew each other, something changed as they created together. They started encouraging one another, sharing what they were making, celebrating each other’s pages.

By the end, when I asked what they had noticed, there was a sense of calm. Less anxiety. A realisation that it was okay not to have expectations — okay not to judge the outcome.

It wasn’t about what they created. It was about what happened within them — and between them — as they gave themselves permission to slow down.

I found myself loving it. Not just the creating, but holding space in that way — it felt natural, peaceful, and something I’d love to keep doing.

So I’m beginning to dream up a regular rhythm. The Open Table — a free, casual, ongoing space where we sit at our own kitchen tables, journals open, and create together. No pressure. No teaching. Just a few minutes with paper, paint, scripture, and each other.

Something has been quietly stirring in me for a while now, and I want to share it with you.

I’ve been dreaming and praying about gathering some of you around the table — for our first gathering here at The Quiet Yes. A space to meet Pappa on the page. To bring Him what’s heavy and what’s holy. To remember who we are in Him. To say our own quiet yes — together.

It will be a faith-rooted art journaling gathering. Recycled paper. Paint. Collage. Scripture. Prayer. Real conversation. No striving, no performing — just receiving. Just learning to come home to His table, again and again, page by page.

I’m not quite ready to open the doors yet. But I am ready to know who’s interested in walking through them when I do.
